So tomorrow or Sunday is the BIG day!! Piper is at 22 lbs weight gain so far. MUCH bigger than her last litter. She gets up 2-3 times a night to pee poor girl. She is miserable and can not get comfy lying down. :-( Hopefully they come tomorrow. Also, her appetite has slowed waaay down.
I gave her a bath today in anticipation for the big day. Her nipples are all clean. :-)
Pups should have full fur and can be born anytime now. I have started taking Piper's temperature 2-3x a day now. A drop in temperature indicates labor will start in 12-24 hours.
Canine labor is in 3 stages. the first stage is the longest and consists of her panting, pacing, and digging off and on. It can last anywhere from 6-24 hours as her cervix is dilating. This is a long process and she can not be let alone in case she starts pushing or tries to have a pup outside or in a closet somewhere.
The second stage is the actual pushing of the pups.
The third stage is the expelling of the placentas.
I know you all will be on eggshells waiting. I will do my best to post pictures to the Facebook group as often as possible. Also everyone after will wonder if I have a puppy for them. Please give me a couple days after to catch up on sleep and get a routine set for piper and the pups. Then I will go through pet vs show quality and see a rough outline of what I have. I will also have the puppy cam up and running by day 2 so I will put the address up for you all to enjoy.
