Change in Dates

I can not believe anyone did not notice:  Pups are due Sunday, June 16th, not on wednesday the 19th.  Also, May 10th is the ultrasound day (Friday)  I was so excited I was miscounting weekends.  HA

Second week of pregnancy

We are at day 10 of pregnancy (hopefully) No real signs.  If anything Piper is a bit clingy, but that could be because I have been spending more time training Ayla and she is jealous :-) 

Internally, this is what is happening: 

Between days 7 and 14, the cell will start being a four-cell, and will then separate into 64 cells. At this time the embryos enter the uterus.

Well, the one week picture of Piper did not happen--I was in Columbus all day, but here is a nice picture of her Nice win a couple weeks ago.  She won her 3rd major towards her Grand Championship.   She looks pretty much the same :-)  No signs of pregnancy.  Much too soon to tell.

Day 5 of Pregnancy

Today is day 5 of possible pregnancy!  How exciting.  No changes in Piper so far that I notice.  Just large nipples due to the hormones. 

 I will be starting a "belly blog" which is a side shot of Piper every week so you can track how her belly is growing.  There is no change the first few weeks so the pictures will be just for fun. 

Progesterone FINAL

We did a final progesterone today just to verify Piper did indeed ovulate (even though she was receptive to the breeding)  and she was at 7.9 ng.  So she definitely ovulated this weekend.  We will say Sunday 4-14 is the official ovulation day.  We had 2 successful ties today and Sexy Dexy is on his way back to PA now. 

So Ultrasound to confirm there are pups will be on (Friday)  5-13

Going home the weekend of  August 10-11th.  (8 weeks old)

First Tie

Well Dexter knew exactly what to do.  The first meeting went off without a hitch :-) 
a Little Flirting, Sniffing, and "love ears"  A little chasing, Piper played hard to get, and it was a good match.  :-) Will try for the second matchup tomorrow morning. 

Final Progesterone

well I got the results back today from Saturday's test.  she was at 3.9 Saturday morning.  so I'd say she ovulated Saturday night or Sunday morning.  Dexy is on his way!!!

Thursday's progesterone

OK we are at 1.4 today (Thursday)  Day 13 of heat.  Sooo according to my chart, she should be ovulating on Saturday.  I am going to do one last test on Saturday to verify ovulation.  Then we breed on days 1-3 post ovulation.  this is optimal time the eggs are ripe and ready for fertilization.  :-)

Also, Ovulation is important to know because pups are due 63 days (9 weeks)  from the day of ovulation.  Piper was spot on her first litter....

Progesterone #3

Tuesdays results are back. she is at 0.6.  Will do another test today. 

Progesterone # 2

Piper came back at 0.3 ng for Monday...  Did I mention each one of these tests cost me $70 bucks!!

Progesterone #1

We did Progesterone test #1 on Saturday.  her Result is  <0.2 ng (nano grams)  we are looking for a rise, with the value getting over 4 to indicate ovulation.  Once we know she has ovulated, breeding can be done 1-3 days post that. 

Here is the scale provided by the lab to indicate where we are....

<1.0  Anestrus/Proestrus
1.0 -1.9  (2 days proir to ovulation)
2.0 - 3.9 1 day prior to ovulation
> or = 4.0  POST Ovulation

I will be doing her second test today, and have the results back tomorrow. 

Day 4 of Heat cycle

Today is Day 4 of Piper's heat cycle.  I will have  to post a cute photo of Piper and her "Hot Pants" for you to enjoy :-)  She is acting a little sluggish, and a little picky about her food.  I have asked the vet before if dogs get cramps.... my vet said, "why not? "    Otherwise everything is GREAT.  She has a dog show this weekend, we will see how she does. 

I will probably start her progesterone testing on Monday.  (one week from today)
